Homes to Live in
Building Methods*
Our preferred, but not exclusive, building method is SIPs. As with most current methods of house building the foundations are formed, followed by an insulated concrete slab floor upon which the SIPs and chosen outer leaf sit.

What are SIPs?
Structural Insulated Panels.
They are made by sandwiching sheets of recyclable Expanded Polystyrene Foam (EPS) between two Oriented Strand Boards (OSB), which are made from sustainable sources. Think of an ice cream sandwich and you will have a good picture of SIPs.
Advantages of SIPs are that they are made from sustainable and recyclable materials, form both the inner wall of the building and provide insulation for the property in one element. They are erected quickly compared to a masonry build and therefore cut down project time and allow internal trades to start work much earlier than a block & brick method. They also use less timber than a timber frame construction and with unpredictable British weather the speed of construction can cut down on lost days.

The outer leaf of the building can be completed in brick, block & render, vertical or horizontal cladding. Cladding could be cedar, larch, other similar timbers or most types of man-made boards.

We are also happy to build more traditionally using masonry inner and outer walls.
Regardless of build methods you will own a home built with care and expertise, using quality materials.

* EPS is recyclable however, at this time, 2023, the UK has few centres that will take this material. The country needs more & better centres for this and other similar products. By the time, or if, our buildings meet their end hopefully such centres will be in common use.
